Once the pricing strategy is set for the entire chain, exceptions are defined for the differing sub-levels such as franchised sub-chains, regions, stores, departments or specific items.

Thus, it is possible for example, to set a gross profit margin for the entire chain at 40% but to exclude the NY area to be at 50% or item 1001 to be at 30%.
